It all started in November.
A business trip to Barcelona was tiring, but i felt distinctly odd the day after i got back. I put down a very sore throat to the fact i had spent the week talking/presenting/meeting 100's of people, and thought little more of it.
That was a mistake.
Sore throat got steadily worse that week, so i started taking the usual pharmacy medicines, which eased the pain and kept me at work. The following weekend though, i was hit with headaches, stomach ache, fever, streaming cold and the start of a bad cough.
Went to the doctors who diagnosed Acute Bronchitis, and sent me on my way with some Amoxycillin, 8 days worth and with instructions to rest.
So i did. And i am my own worst enemy when in 'quarantine' at home. I get bored very quickly and spent most of the time watching movies , between the coughing and sneezing fits of course.
I didn't really notice at this point that things were getting worse, but it was. The cough developed into something far deeper, so i went back to the doctors after the antibiotics ran out to discover i then had got pneumonia.
That's quite a shocking word, as i have only heard it described as a 'cause of death' before. A little dramatic you say? Not really, as it shocked me to the bone. More tablets, told to have total rest and i did just that.
It's now 6 weeks later and i am still not anywhere near 100% fit again. This underlying cold/flu has never completely gone and i seem to be going 2 steps forward and 1 step back.
I blame Barcelona. Must have caught the bug there.
By way of an update, still not feeling great.
ReplyDeleteEvery time i go out in the cold, my throat and chest get bad.
Went into the Royal Berkshire Hospital on Friday for an X-ray, hopefully to rule out some of the nastier conditions this could point too.
